The workshop is presented by a geologist with over thirty five years experience in western Canada, as well as Europe, South America and the Caribbean.
The purpose of this two-day workshop is to provide a practical, hands-on review of some of the fundamental aspects of carbonate geology as well as an overview of some of the classification schemes. Cuttings sample examination of carbonates requires some additional skill sets generally not employed when looking at and describing detrital / clastic rocks. The second day of the workshop will provide participants with those skills – practical, hands-on techniques to fully examine and describe carbonate drillcuttings. The workshop is supplemented with digital images to explain fabrics, textures and techniques employed in the subsurface.

REQUIREMENTS
Participants should be reasonably familiar with the use of a binocular microscope. A binocular microscope and light, a sample tray, two watch glasses, a probe, a pair of tweezers and a grain size chart are required for each participant and can be made available if necessary. All chemicals and hotplates used in this workshop will be provided.
