Overview
Canstrat conducts a five-day course on sample logging. The purpose of this course is to acquaint the geologist with sample logging techniques and to develop a systematic method of describing drill cuttings and cores.
This course provides each student with abundant time to look at drill cuttings, hand samples, core plugs and fossils, in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of sample examination.
Our method is world renowned and sets the industry standard. Students will be provided with a microscope and light source to use during the course. Students also receive a course binder containing all pertinent course material and information.
Class hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Prerequisites
It is recommended that students have a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Geology, be a Geological Technologist with accreditation from a technical school, or have worked as a mudlogger.
Students who do not have these prerequisites must speak with a Canstrat technician at (403) 284-1112 prior to registration in order to determine if this course is right for you.
Prospective students who are trained in science but not in geology should prepare themselves for this course by reading textbooks in advance on general geology, with emphasis on sedimentary rocks including carbonates, clastics, evaporites and chert and their classification systems.

Cancellation Policy
Students must notify Canstrat 7 business days before the course start date of cancellation in order to receive a full refund. If cancellation occurs within 7 business days of the start date 50% of the paid amount will be kept by Canstrat as an administration fee.
